What to expect

Free beginner self-defense class - reserve your spot now.

Real fundamentals, not theater.

90 minutes of practical self-defense. No belts, no sparring matches, no ego. Things that actually work if you ever need them.

Outside, in the morning.

We train in a public park in the morning light. Bring water and clothes you can move in. That's it.

Every man is welcome.

First-timers. Dads. Retirees. Guys who haven't worked out in years. You don't need to be in shape to start.

Meet your instructor

Jason Norwood is a co-founder of Men's Work, TX and the man who runs every class. He's a professional MMA fighter. 18–8, with 11 finishes, a Welterweight title fight in CES MMA.

But that's not why you should come. For over a decade he's taught men who've never thrown a punch how to protect themselves and the people they love. His classes aren't about aggression — they're about competence, the quiet kind that lives in a man before he ever needs it.

He teaches like a man who knows what real pressure feels like. Because he does. Show up, and he'll meet you where you are.

Where it leads

(if you want it to)

This class is how most men first come into contact with Men's Work, TX. Our members train with Jason every month — it's one piece of a brotherhood that's been meeting for over three years.

You don't have to join anything to come train. The class is free and complete on its own. But a lot of men find that one Saturday in the park turns out to be the start of something they didn't know they were looking for.

From a man who started where you are

“What sets this training apart is it's personalized approach. Whether your interested is hand to hand defense, grappling, edged weapon skills, or integrating multiple disciplines into a practical self defense plan, the instruction is tailored to your individual goals, abilities, and real world needs.”

— Rob A., MWTX member since 2024

Questions men usually ask

Q: Do I need to be fit or have any experience?

No. We start everyone at the beginning. Come as you are.

Q: Is this just going to be a sales pitch?

No. The class is free and worth your time on its own. You will hear about MWTX membership — we won't hide that — but there's zero obligation and no hard sell. Train, decide nothing, go home. That's a perfectly good outcome.

Q: What should I bring and wear?

Water and clothes you can move in. That's all.

Q: Is there contact? Is it safe?

It's beginner-friendly and controlled. You set your own pace. Nobody gets thrown around.

Q: Where is it?

We train in public parks across Travis and Williamson Counties. Fill in your information below to register for the next available class.
